Russia Has New Dangerous Drones

Russia is deploying a new generation of jet-powered drones in its war against Ukraine, creating a growing challenge for Ukraine’s air defense. Known as the Geran-3, Geran-4, and Geran-5, these upgraded attack drones can fly significantly faster than earlier Shahed models. Ukraine’s Defense Intelligence estimates that the Geran-5 can reach speeds of up to 600 kilometers per hour and has a range of up to 950 kilometers — making the drones harder to detect and intercept. As drone warfare evolves, Russia is also taking advantage of foreign tech. Components recovered from Russian drones have been traced to the United States, Japan, Germany, China, and other countries despite international sanctions and export controls.
